Method
 

Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together softened butter and white sugar using a hand mixer until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Mix in eggs, vanilla extract, almond extract, and orange zest until smooth, approximately 2 minutes.
  4. Gradually add flour, mixing on low speed until a soft dough forms. Chill in refrigerator for 30 minutes if too sticky.
  5. Roll out the chilled dough to about ¼-inch thickness and cut out shapes with festive cookie cutters.
  6. Chill cut cookies in the fridge for 10-15 minutes before baking to maintain their shape.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden, then cool on sheets before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. Whisk meringue powder, lemon juice, and water until combined, then add sifted powdered sugar until glossy.
  9. Divide royal icing to color as desired, then decorate cooled cookies and let sit at room temperature until set.
