Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg.
  3. Cream the softened butter and light brown sugar using an electric mixer for 3–4 minutes until fluffy.
  4. Add egg and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture and beat until smooth.
  5. Gradually incorporate dry ingredients into wet, alternating with buttermilk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  6. Gently fold in the pure maple syrup until evenly distributed.
  7. Pour and spread the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes and check doneness with a toothpick.
  9. Prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar and maple syrup, adding milk or water as needed.
  10. Cool the bars in the baking dish for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  11. Drizzle the cooled bars with the maple glaze.
  12. Slice and serve the bars.
