  1. In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter over medium heat. Add thinly sliced medium onions and a pinch of salt, stirring occasionally. Cook for about 10 minutes until the onions turn golden brown and are fragrant. Drizzle in a splash of balsamic vinegar, stirring and cooking for another 2-3 minutes until well coated. Remove the caramelized onions from the skillet and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of butter and allow it to melt over medium heat. Assemble the Pear & Apple Grilled Cheese by layering half of the shredded sharp cheddar cheese on two slices of sourdough bread.
