Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Christmas Tree Meringues
  1. Preheat your oven to 225°F (110°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk the room temperature egg whites on medium speed for about 2 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add cream of tartar and increase to high speed, whisk for 2 to 3 minutes until soft peaks form.
  4. Gradually add granulated sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while whisking until stiff peaks form, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  5. Gently fold in vanilla extract and green gel food coloring without deflating the meringue.
  6. Pipe tree shapes on the lined baking sheet, starting from the base and spiraling up.
  7. Bake for 1 hour and 30 minutes, making sure not to open the oven door.
  8. Turn off the oven and leave the door ajar, allowing meringues to cool in the oven for 30 minutes.
