Preparation Steps
- Prepare the 'Honey' Mustard Sauce by whisking together neutral oil, agave or maple syrup, and mustard until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Drain and press extra firm tofu for at least 20 minutes, then slice into 1-inch strips.
- In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and optional paprika. Gradually whisk in water until smooth.
- Dip each tofu strip into batter, coat in panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently for an even coating.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange tofu strips in a single layer. Bake for 30-35 minutes, flipping halfway.
- Brush the baked tenders with the prepared 'honey' mustard sauce and return to the oven for an additional 5-8 minutes.
